The 10-U team had their season debut this weekend in the Starter Spring Classic in the greater Hartford area. The season started very well, with two victories on Saturday. The first game was against the Cobras, with the Cougars winning by a final score of 29-11. The leading scorers were Amber Crotty and Amber Richardson, while Alyssa Eannotti was our leading rebounder. The second game was another victory, 42-12, over the CT Storm. Emily Menendez led all scorers, hitting several long-distance shots. Stephanie Jones and Deirdre Eason played the point and helped direct our offense.
On Sunday, we matched up twice with an older CT Rage team and played them very close. In the end we came up short, losing game #1 after being tied at halftime. Top scorers were Emily Menendez, Deirdre Eason, Amber Crotty, and Bianca Robertson. Leading rebounders were Amber Richardson and Alyssa Eannotti. Later in the day the girls lost in the championship game, where they fought hard until the end. Emily Menendez and Kelly Quinn led all scorers. Stephanie Jones played well and connected on 4 of 5 foul shots.
Bianca Robertson played a good all-around game over the weekend, while the Ambers were tough inside along with Alyssa Eannotti. Stephanie Jones and Deirdre Eason played the point position well and both gathered up the assists. Overall, the weekend was a great experience and the kids became better friends as they had a great time. The parents were all very supportive and great to be around!
May 19-20
The 10-U girls went undefeated this past weekend, running over their opposition in New Haven. A shoulder injury for Rachel Plotke was the only down moment for the girls all weekend. That didn't stop her from coming back to the bench and pulling for her team. All of her teammates and coaches wish her a fast recovery.
We had many girls score several points over the course of 4 games. Amber Crotty and Amber Richardson scored and rebounded well all weekend. Alyssa Eannotti had 14 points in one game, showing some very good post moves. Stephanie Jones continues to improve at the point and also had several assists. Miriam Roday scored 11 points for the weekend and hit some great jump shots.
As a whole we had a great weekend, except for the injury. The record for the weekend was a very nice 4-0. Thank you to the parents for their support of all the players. A special thanks to the Stone family for their generosity.
June 30-July 1
The Cougars played our last tournament of the season this past weekend in South Windsor. We were a little short-handed with our roster, but our girls battled and showed great heart. For the weekend, we finished with a record of 3-1.
We lost our first game against a bigger and older CT South team. Deirdre Eason went the whole way as our point guard and did a nice job. Amber Crotty and Kelly Quinn led the way in rebounding, while Erin Johnson, Lianne Maynard, and McKenzie Stone played strong defense.
The girls came back in the second game and defeated another CT South team 29-7. The Cougars were led by Alyssa Eannotti and Amber Crotty in both scoring and rebounding. Emily Menendez played well, helping at the point and scoring. Kelly Quinn was strong on the boards along with McKenzie Stone and Erin Johnson. Deirdre Eason played an all-around good game.
We were undermanned on Sunday due to other commitments. The kids that were there played great and won both games. In our third game of the tournament, Lianne Maynard and McKenzie Stone played great defense and each scored. Rachel Plotke made a return appearance after recovering from her shoulder injury. Stephanie Jones led all scorers for both teams. Alyssa Eannotti, Erin Johnson, and Amber Crotty rebounded and played well.
The last game was against a big ECB team, and it was a real battle. All of the players and parents were really into the game as it went down to the wire. Our team played very well and wound up with a tough 29-28 victory. Emily Menendez and Stephanie Jones put on an offensive show in the second half with nice shooting and drives to the basket. Erin Johnson also played well along with Alyssa Eannotti. Amber Crotty played a great defensive game for us.
I want to thank all of the players and the parents for their support during the year. A special thanks to Coach Fred Stone for his help and care that he gave to our players. We hope to have a team play fall-ball and are looking forward to the two Cougars Clinics in August. Tryouts will be in the fall, please tell your friends and stay in touch. We will see you at the end of the season picnic, thank you and take care!
